The sudden and powerful earthquake on Feb 6 caused disastrous damages in Hualien, and the Hualien Mill of Chung Hwa Pulp under the YFY Group, was not eliminated from the disaster, either. After some careful inspection on the safety issues, the mill will recommence its operation at noon today (8th). Chung Hwa Pulp is the earliest established enterprise of Hualien. Seeing itself as an indigenous business of the place, CHP shows the love for the county and donates NT$10 million to help with disaster recovery as well as releasing victims’ urgent needs in the recovery.

Since Chung Hwa Pulp set up a mill in Hualien in 1968, the company has operated for 50 years. Seeing itself as an indigenous business, Chung Hwa Pulp is always affected, and concerned about the local development of Hualien. Through the donation of NT$10 million, CHP hopes that, through its strengthened relationship with the local people and the land, the company would have more understanding regarding the local demand, and bring about positive impact in helping the victims go through the difficulties.

During this powerful earthquake, fierce shakings were felt in CHP’s Hualien Mill situated in Guanghua Village. At first instance of the earthquake, a safety notification mechanism was enacted to notify and confirm the safety of all employees and families. The factory suspended its operation to conduct a thorough safety inspection soon after the earthquake. After the detailed inspection lasting all day yesterday, Chung Hwa Pulp will restart its operation today (8th) at noon.

As the longest established business in Hualien, CHP was emotionally affected by the strong earthquake causing such a disaster and fear. The Company therefore took an immediate action to donate NT$10 million, in the hope to show its active support for the local people and help them rebuild homes and return to normal life as soon as possible.
