In 2024, Taipei City successfully guided private enterprises and organizations to adopt green procurement and apply for the Environmental Protection Label, achieving a record-breaking green procurement amount of NT$18.2 billion. On May 8, the city hosted the “Outstanding Green Procurement Enterprises and Organizations Recognition Ceremony,” where Commissioner Hsu Shih-Hsun personally presented awards to 122 private enterprises and organizations with over NT$5 million in green procurement, along with 3 environmentally certified hotels. This event acknowledged their concrete actions in supporting green products and promoting sustainable consumption, as the public and private sectors work hand in hand toward a net-zero society.
According to the Environmental Protection Bureau, Taipei's green procurement total has steadily increased year by year. In 2024, it reached a historic high of NT$18.2 billion, accounting for 25% of the national total (NT$74.3 billion). The number of reporting organizations also hit a record high of 252, doubling from previous years. To encourage broader participation, the city expanded its guidance to include not only construction and finance sectors, but also leasing services, technology companies, and civil organizations, bringing in 41 new participants. Over the past five years, Taipei’s green procurement volume has grown by 37%, demonstrating strong alignment with SDG 12 to promote a green economy.
This year, 31 companies reported green procurement amounts exceeding NT$1 billion—7 more than the previous year—with the financial sector showing particularly strong performance. Enterprises with reported green procurement amounts over NT$10 billion include Far Eastern New Century Corporation, Chung Hwa Pulp Corporation, Cathay Financial Holdings, and CTBC Financial Holding. Far Eastern New Century led the list with NT$3.7 billion and has committed to achieving a 50% reduction in carbon emissions, 50% green product ratio, and 50% green raw material usage by 2030. Chung Hwa Pulp, which ranked second, increased its share of green raw materials from 50% to 78%, demonstrating its leadership as a green benchmark enterprise.
The Environmental Protection Bureau emphasized that it will continue to expand support for private enterprises and organizations to engage in green procurement, while also promoting green offices, eco-friendly accommodations, and sustainable dining. The goal is to embed the concept of a net-zero lifestyle into daily life in Taipei, broaden the green consumption ecosystem, and build a sustainable, net-zero Taipei together.
