The 6th Hualien County “Chung Hwa Pulp Public Welfare Cup” AI Autonomous Vehicle Robotics Competition was held on May 24 at Hualien Industrial High School. The event was organized by the Hualien County Department of Education, co-hosted by Fuxing Elementary School and Hualien Industrial High School, and supported by Chung Hwa Pulp Corporation. A total of 188 teams and over 400 teachers and students from Hualien and Taitung participated.

Guests including Director Weng Shu-Min of the Hualien County Education Department, Chung Hwa Pulp Chairman Huang Kun-Xiong, and county councilors Dibus Ayulay and Han Lin-Mei attended the opening ceremony to support the participants and encourage students to apply their learning through hands-on experience.

Director Weng expressed her gratitude to all organizing partners and acknowledged Chung Hwa Pulp’s continued support for the event for six consecutive years. She also emphasized the county’s ongoing efforts to invest in digital education, offering students a platform to explore their potential through diverse competitions.

Chairman Huang highlighted Chung Hwa Pulp’s commitment to both technological advancement and local talent development. Now in its 57th year, the company continues its digital transformation while promoting responsible corporate citizenship. He praised the students’ courage and determination, encouraging them to embrace AI and shine in the tech world.

The competition featured four categories: Maze Defense Battle, Soccer Showdown, AI x RC Smart Combat, and AI Showdown: Squid Strategy. Each challenged students to apply AI programming, problem-solving, and real-time decision-making.

A special demonstration on digital twin robotics was also included. Unlike supervised learning, digital twins use reinforcement learning and virtual simulation to train robots before applying them to real hardware—reducing resource use and enhancing learning outcomes.
