Chung Hwa Pulp has been named a winner in the Social Empowerment category at the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA) 2025. The award recognizes CHP’s long-term dedication to bridging educational gaps in rural Taiwan and building more inclusive communities through targeted, high-impact learning programs.

With more than five decades of commitment to social responsibility, CHP has firmly embedded the spirit of giving back into its corporate culture. CHP sees local development as inseparable from its mission. In response to persistent educational inequalities, especially in rural and remote areas, the company has launched a wide range of initiatives aimed at fostering learning, curiosity, and future readiness among children and youth.

CHP’s social empowerment strategy focuses on four key areas: science education, environmental education, reading promotion, and social care. Notable efforts include organizing drone competitions and STEM camps in collaboration with rural schools, supporting over 3,000 students between 2023 and 2024. Through the Hualien Environmental Education Park, Taiwan’s first certified environmental learning site within a manufacturing facility, students gain first-hand exposure to circular economy concepts.

In addition, CHP’s Forest of Life Reading Project offers creative and interactive literacy experiences—from storytelling and AR tools to wetland explorations—making reading both fun and educational for more than 300 children. Programs like the Dream Project and Taitung Family provide personalized support and virtual mentorship to rural students, ensuring consistent academic and emotional development even across geographic barriers.

These initiatives have collectively reached more than 6,000 students and residents across Hualien, Taitung, and Kaohsiung. With over 30 activities conducted and over 250 employee volunteers engaged, CHP’s approach combines internal commitment with cross-sector partnerships involving over 20 organizations, including schools, libraries, NGOs, and local governments.

Such a meaningful and impactful project will undoubtedly serve as a role model for other industries to learn from, and this Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards recognition reaffirms CHP’s belief that investing in youth education today lays the foundation for resilient, thriving communities tomorrow.
